Adelaide’s Best Sunset Viewing Locations
Adelaide is home to some of the best sunsets in the world.
The thousands of posts on Instagram tagged with #Adelaidesunset are testament to the stunning, rich colours that are on show as the day comes to a close. While you can witness these impressive light shows from almost anywhere in Adelaide, we’ve narrowed down a list of our favourite places in and around the city to watch the sunset.
Mount Lofty Summit
Adelaide highest peak boasts incredible panoramic views of the city and surrounds. Mount Lofty is usually at its busiest on weekend mornings, with joggers, walkers and cyclists making the ascent and taking those critical mountain-top snaps. This weekend, instead of a mid-morning stroll, head up in the evening and watch the sunset from 700 metres above sea level.

Hallett Cove Boardwalk
We couldn’t create a must-see sunset list without mentioning Hallett Cove and it’s beautiful boardwalk and staircase. Hallett Cove Conservation Park, just 21km from Adelaide, is home to one of South Australia’s most pristine beaches, and a great place to watch the sun sink below the ocean’s horizon.
2KW
2KW is one of Adelaide’s premier rooftop bars, with a stunning view of the bustling city of Adelaide. With some of South Australia’s best food and wine, settle in for an evening meal and watch the city skyline light up as the sun sets.
Windy Point
Windy Point, on Belair Road, is a scenic hotspot for visitors and locals alike. Stop at the lookout for a quick peek at the dusk colours, or book a table at Windy Point Restaurant for dinner with an exceptional view.
Mount Osmond
For a date night like no other, pack a picnic (and your camera) and head into the Adelaide Hills to Mount Osmond. This vantage point has some of the best views of the city skyline, stretching all the way to the ocean. Pour yourself a glass of bubbly, dig into a local produce platter and enjoy the show from one of the best seats in the house.
Henley Beach
The twinkling festoon lights and buzz of activity in the square make this sunset location one of the most popular in the city. Take a leisurely stroll along the sand or venture out onto the jetty and take a peek at the catch of the day while the sun sinks below the horizon.
Adelaide Oval
Adelaide Oval has been the setting of some of the most impressive sunsets in Australia. Whether you’re watching a twilight cricket session, cheering on your favourite AFL team or setting out on a Twilight RoofClimb adventure, witnessing the sunset from Adelaide Oval is a must.
